Balloon Basics 19 – How to Tie Deco Bubble Balloons

Deco Bubble Balloons are great as you can be really creative putting all sorts of things inside them such as tulle, confetti, paint and feathers to name but a few items! The neck of the balloon has no valve which allows you to put things inside, however, it does mean the balloons are not self-sealing.

Not to worry though, Doctor Bob has several methods of tying them to share in this blog!

Method 1 – Tying using the inner latex balloon

You will need:

  • 11” latex
  • 20” or 24” Deco Bubble balloon
  • Helium/ hand pump / electric inflator

1) Insert the latex balloon into the neck of your Deco Bubble, leaving a little of the neck poking out of the Deco Bubble. This can be done by rolling the latex balloon lengthways or inserting a pen into the latex balloon and then poking the balloon-covered pencil into the neck of the Deco Bubble.

2) Inflate the Deco Bubble (not the latex balloon!) by inserting the nozzle of the inflator into the neck of the Deco Bubble whilst holding on to the neck of the inserted latex balloon. Inflate until there is approximately 1” / 2.5 cm width of creases each side of the seam. Make sure you don’t lose grip of the latex balloon!

3) Without letting go of the balloon, carefully insert the nozzle of the inflator into the neck of the latex balloon and inflate. As you inflate the latex balloon, the Deco Bubble will also increase in size. Continue to inflate until the creases in the Deco Bubble have disappeared.

4) In your left hand, keep a tight grip on the neck of the Deco Bubble and latex balloon. Ensuring the latex balloon is still sticking out, twist the two necks together a few ties.

5) Finally, stretch the neck of the latex balloon and tie off as you would a normal latex balloon! The neck of the Deco Bubble will be tied into the knot.

Method 2 – Tying using a 160Q

You will need:

  • 11” latex
  • 20” or 24” Deco Bubble balloon
  • Helium / hand pump / electric inflator
  • 160Q (air removed and a knot in the open end!)

Follow Steps 1 – 4 above in method one. Then:

5) Holding the end of the 160Q with the little finger on your left hand, stretch it out taught with your right hand then wrap it tightly around the balloon multiple times.

Double knot the two ends of the 160Q together very, very tightly.

Stretch the other end of the 160Q out again and wrap it multiple times in the other direction. Double knot this to give it a final seal!

Method 3 – Foil balloon inside a 24” Deco Bubble

You will need:

  • 16”/18” foil balloon
  • 24” Deco Bubble balloon
  • Helium/ hand pump/ electric inflator
  • 160Q (air removed and a knot in the open end!)

Put a little bit of air into the Deco Bubble – a few pumps of a hand pump
Roll up your foil balloon and insert it into the neck of your Deco Bubble, ensuring the neck of the foil balloon sticks out of the neck of the Deco Bubble. Once inside, try to unroll the foil balloon as much as possible.

Now inflate the foil balloon until it’s fully inflated.

Without letting go of the foil balloon, move the nozzle to the neck of the Deco Bubble and inflate until the creases have disappeared.

The foil balloon will become a little bit soft due to the pressure around it. This can be carefully re-inflated but remember not to let any air/helium out of the Deco Bubble balloon whilst you do it!

Holding the end of the 160Q with the little finger on your left hand, stretch it out taught with your right hand then wrap it tightly around the balloon multiple times.

Double knot the two ends of the 160Q together very, very tightly.

Stretch the other end of the 160Q out again and wrap it multiple times in the other direction. Double knot this to give it a final seal!
