Have you ever wished for a smooth base for your balloon designs which also matches your colour scheme? On BMTV Balloon Basics 21, Doctor Bob makes your wishes come true as he shows how to do that using balloons and a cake board!

You will need:
– 1 x round cake board
– 1 x 16” latex balloon in the colour of your choice
– 1 x hand pump
– Sticky tape such as Stretchy Balloon Tape

1) Take a 16” latex balloon and inflate it to its full size using a hand pump. Hold the neck tightly.

2) Rest the balloon on a clear surface and let a small amount of air out of the balloon.

3) Take the cake board and place it upside down on top of the balloon (which will be on its side).

4) Spread your hand out over the cake board to create an even pressure all round.

5) Press gently but firmly down on the balloon, slowly releasing the air out with your other hand.

6) As if by magic, the balloon should begin to ‘wrap’ itself around the cake board! Keep pressing down and releasing air until all the air is removed from the balloon.

7) Once the cake board is covered, the balloon will need to be secured underneath. Do this by covering all edges of the balloon with sticky tape. Clik Clik Stretchy Balloon Tape works a treat!

8) Finally, cut the neck of the balloon off so the base will sit nice and flat and secure the remainder of the neck to the base, again, with sticky tape.

Hey presto, you’re now a base-making pro!

Why stop there? You can cover all sorts of objects now from mobile ‘phones to flower vases!
