This week on BMTV we are joined once again by Doctor Bob from Doctor Bob’s Balloons Unlimited. He shows us how to make a fun, on-trend air-filled unicorn design using lots of different techniques.

The first part of the design is a cluster of four standard 11” pink latex balloon which are inflated to 9 inches. To make sure the design structure is secure and weighted he attaches a balloon sand weight to the cluster with a white (or pink) 260Q, creating a base for the design.

The second part to the design is a cluster of four 5-inch Qualatex golden rod latex which he attaches on top with the 260Q that was attached to the cluster of pink latex.

He then creates a balloon filled clear stuffing balloon which will sit on top of the two sets of clusters. The stuffed balloon can be created in a couple of ways – the first is with a super stuffer which is the easiest way to create this. However, you can also use the old-fashioned method, which Doctor Bob demonstrates for us.

He first inflates the 18-inch clear stuffing balloon with air, holding on to the end. Then he uses a handmade stick (you can use a balloon stick or straw) and puts an uninflated 5-inch coloured latex balloon on top and slides it through the neck. Then he uses a hand pump to inflate the coloured 5-inch balloon. You then need to twist the neck of the 5-inch latex, tie it in a double knot and then snip off the end. This process can then be repeated with additional balloons you want to put inside.

If you do accidently let out the air from the stuffing balloon you can just re-inflate it. To attach the stuffed balloon to the cluster he puts together a structure made from pink 260Q’s. He attaches two inflated ones together and then attaches them to the centre of the clusters. This is then repeated with another two 260Q’s. The stuffed balloon sits in the centre and then he wraps the four 260Q’s around and secures them all together at the top by wrapping them around each other.

To finish off the design he attaches a 33-inch magical Unicorn Supershape to the top of the structure. He attaches a cluster of 5-inch white latex first and then adds the Unicorn Supershape using an uninflated 260Q. This design can easily be changed by using different colours, using a different Supershape design or adding other things inside of the stuffing balloon.
