Balloon Basics 02 – How to Air-Fill & Tie a Latex Balloon

In this basics video, we show you how to air-fill a latex balloon and tie a knot in it!

Let’s get started! For this, Mark and Greg are inflating 5 inch balloons using Qualatex two-way hand pumps. We recommend this pump for most air-fill work as it expels air when you push and pull. Simply put your balloon on the end of the inflator so you are inflating into the bulbous part of the balloon and not the neck. Pump 5 times to inflate the balloon. If you use the same number of pumps each time you inflate 5 inch balloons, the balloons will be the same size each time. This is great if you don’t have time or the facilities to size your balloons.

Next up: tying the balloon! Scissor the balloon with your first and second fingers and place your thumb on top. Stretch the neck of the balloon out, wrap it over your thumb and around the back of the balloon and then place the bead of the neck between your thumb and forefinger. You can then pinch your hand and the knot is tied! Simple and easy!
