BMTV 54 – Mother’s Day Balloons, Emoji Balloons and the new Qualatex Catalogue

Wet and Windy

First off we had an email from DPD this week that contained a weather warning. It’s going to be wet and windy, particularly up in Scotland and Northern Ireland so please allow more time for your parcels to arrive if you live in those kinds of places.

Speaking of Northern Ireland, Scotland and DPD, Greg spoke to our account manager at DPD, and asked if there was anything that she could do to reduce the delivery charges to these fairly expensive places. She went away and came back saying yes! So now we’ve managed to reduce the delivery charges by a couple of pounds to Northern Ireland and Scotland. Every little helps!

Cake Tip

Greg went into the warehouse and asked the warehouse team what we have been selling a lot of recently to talk about on BMTV and they said CAKE! Greg scratched his head a bit at this, but they explained that we are selling a lot of the small, air-fill letters that spell out CAKE. The most likely reson for this is decorating cake tables at parties and weddings, which we think is a great idea. They’re really cost-effective as you don’t have to helium-fill them!

Valentine’s Day just around the corner

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and we are stopping ordering any new stock in from suppliers. What you have seen on our website is the last of our stock for this year, so make sure you’ve got everything you need for the 14th February! We still have a range of 18 inch foils available including some 18” heart packages that will save you a bit of money. Take a look at our Valentine’s category.

Mother’s Day Gets Bigger Each Year

For those of you who don’t know, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday the 6th of March this year, so make sure you get your mother something special… like a balloon! Some of our favourite designs this year include this flowery design which is a really unique shape for a foil balloon, and this happy mother’s day purple butterfly 18” square foil. We do also have the Mother’s Day bubble balloons and latex in 6 count packs and 25 count packs. Greg’s personal favourite is this “For the Best Grandma” balloon that could be used all year round.

Last year Mother’s day was bigger than Valentine’s Day for us and we have noticed a definite increase in popularity over just the last few years. People are just love giving balloons as presents to their doting mums, and I’m sure you can guess what mine will be getting! You can be sure that Mother’s Day is going to be big this year, so make sure you plan ahead and get your balloons in early!

When we introduced the first Emoji balloon from Betallic a few months ago, people went crazy! We were constantly shifting the stock and people were asking when we were going to get more designs in. NorthStar have responded with plans to introduce their own range but in the meantime, Betallic have brought out 5 more designs that we have ordered in now. Click here to see the Emoji balloons we have available. We are selling out of these balloons fast but are constantly ordering in more so keep checking back to see more stock.

Spring Fair

Next Monday we will be going to the Spring Fair at the Birmingham NEC so say hi if you see us! The Spring Fair is the industry’s chance to announce new stock and plans for the year. We go every year to catch up with suppliers, see what new trends are hitting the industry and gain new knowledge. It really is essential to go at some point if you’re in the balloon and party trade, but if you don’t get a chance, then be sure to check out next week’s BMTV as we may have a special, on-location episode in the pipeline!

That’s it for this week, see you next time!
