BMTV 57 – Doughnut Inspiration and the Gift of Time

Welcome back to BMTV! This week we are back in the studio after two videos at the spring fair. We spoke to lots of suppliers and even had a chat with the Pioneers of Qualatex Balloons: Ted and Betty Vlamis. If you haven’t seen these videos than you can find them here:

Next week we have Roger Dawes from Amscan coming in to talk to us about their 260A modelling balloons, and he may even try to teach Greg how to make a few things! This week however we wanted to talk to you about a few upcoming events as there is a lot going on in March.

March events

To start with, the 6th of march is Mother’s day, and we’ve stopped ordering Mother’s Day balloons for this year so get your stock ready while you can. Next on the 17th of March is St Patrick’s Day, where we have old favourites like the green beer mug and the sitting leprechaun but also a few new designs including a “kiss me I’m Irish” balloon. Did you know that in Chicago on St Patrick’s Day they dye the river bright green? Greg says it’s an amazing experience. Easter is on the 27th of March and we have the sitting bunny as well as these cellophane bags that people are using to fill with sweets to sell with a balloon as a package deal.

Greg’s diet threat

Creme-Egg

Speaking of sweets… Greg’s diet is out the window if one of these comes into the office. They are Chocolate Scotch Eggs and are made from a Cadbury’s Crème Egg that is first baked in a chocolate cake, rolled in liquid chocolate and then rolled in broken up bits of flake! Everyone at Balloon Market agrees it looks amazing!

New NorthStar

Moving from sweets to sweet-themed balloons, we now have the Doughnut-inspired numbers that NorthStar unveiled at the Spring Fair. If you watched our spring fair video you will have seen Annie Escalera show us that they have a sprinkles pattern on the front side of the balloon and a sandy-doughnut colour on the reverse. They have tabs at the top so you can hang them on nylon line, but Rachel came up with a great idea of attaching them to balloon sticks, cutting the sticks so they are shorter and using them as cake toppers! Also in the building are some of the script words, we have “One” and “Yay” at the moment and are expecting “Love” to come in shortly.

The gift of time

We know how valuable time can be, once it’s gone it’s gone and one way we’ve found to be more efficient with our time is a new app called Trello. This is where you can make lists, share them with other people and keep on track of the things you have to do. It has completely changed Greg’s life! Another way to save yourself a bit of time is to use our re-order function on our website. This function saves the products that you have ordered in the past so you can add them to your basket simply. This is great if you re-order regular products again and again as you can place an order in a few minutes instead of going through the website, finding the products you need and adding them to the basket one-by-one. You can find the re-order items section in the drop-down menu next to your name when you log into your account.

That’s it for this week, see you next time!
