BMTV 74 – Confetti Balloons, Finding Dory and our New Show Revealed!

A couple of show’s ago now we were talking about balloon releases and we have written a blog detailing our reasons for no longer supporting balloon releases. Check it out here. We also understand that if you make money from balloon release then you can’t just stop doing them, so we have also written a blog on alternatives to balloon releases that you can find here.

New Show

We are happy to announce that we are releasing a new show that we are calling Balloon Basics. The idea behind this is that we want to help you and your business grow so we are going to do a full range of videos, starting with the basics, with everything you need to know to be in the balloon industry such as how to tie a latex balloon into ribbon. These are going to be release bi-weekly and are going to be short 2 minute videos and separate to the regular weekly videos we do. The first will be released on the 27th of June 2016 and will give you a quick rundown of the different latex finishes that you will work with in the industry.

The next big thing… no, really!

People say to us all the time, “this is going to be the next big thing” and we usually don’t believe them but this genuinely is! It is of course Finding Dory, sequel to the 2003 film Finding Nemo, have you heard of it? Nemo was so popular that we are still selling Finding Nemo balloons almost 13 years later! So you know this isn’t going to be a craze that goes away easily. We have just the balloons at the moment; from square foils to latex balloons, Orbz and even a giant air walker balloon, but are hoping to get the full range of party supplies in shortly.

Speaking of Orbz, they are really starting to kick-in with new designs and great licenses like this Emoji balloon that has four different faces and is completely round. Other designs include this clear confetti-balloon themed Orbz and a wedding wishes balloon.

Rainbow balloon

This is one of the most vibrant balloons we have ever seen! To us it would be perfect for the Gay Pride celebrations that are coming up soon; there is one this weekend in London, one in Brighton during 5 – 7 August and Manchester during 26 – 27 August. Alternatively, this just could be a brightly coloured balloon for people that like rainbows and unicorns! Find it on our website here.

Confetti balloons

We have started to sell these balloons that come with confetti and a funnel to put it into the balloons. The idea being that the confetti sticks to the inside of the balloons and you get this lovely pattern on the inside. Some people have been struggling to get these to work properly as they rely on static electricity to stick. We decided to do a few experiments with these balloons and test them out. The first balloon we tested was inflated with air and as you can see the confetti stuck to the inside like a charm, this is probably because the air-pump caused the confetti to swirl around the balloon and build up static. We then tried this with helium filling the balloons but unfortunately this didn’t work as well. Most of the confetti just sat at the bottom of the balloon. We then thought, “there must be a middle ground”, so we air inflated a balloon to create the static and then released the air out to helium fill the balloon. This method worked much better but we still needed to rub the balloon on James’ head to get more static back in!

That’s it for this week, next time we have John Bowler from Bapia coming in to talk a little bit about the challenges and trends that he is seeing in the industry and we talk a little bit about balloon releases as well! See you then!
