Hang Balloon Decorations with Magnets!

You know how it is when you’re decorating: You get the ladder out to tie a decoration to the ceiling, position your ladder, climb it, get another person to hand you the decoration, then you tie it on only to realise it’s in the wrong place and you need to do it all again! What you need is a set of MagMovers and ringed magnets to make your job a whole lot easier!

What are MagMovers?

The MagMover system consists of rectangular magnets with metal rings that you tie your decorations to, before attaching to metal points on a ceiling or wall. What’s great about this is that they can be attached, removed and re-attached multiple times quickly and with ease. MagMovers are designed to work with telescopic Mag Poles that allow you to attach your decorations to high ceilings without the need for ladders. They are incredibly fast, convenient and useful, something that we use at Balloon Market all the time!

There are few different parts to the MagMover system. To start with we have the standard ring magnets, which measure 2.5mm x 4.5mm and can hold a max weight of 5lbs. Secondly, there are the super ring magnets which have an extra ring, measure 58mm x 20mm and can hold a weight of up to 10lbs. You can combine multiple magnets to increase the max weight, or use a Multi MagMover to create up to 6 attachment points at a time. The MagMover name comes from the spring-like head that fits on the pole and carries the magnets. You will only need one for single attachments like a balloon bouquet, but there is a Multi MagMover that can hold up to 6 magnets for larger balloon decorations such as arches and columns. Lastly there is the Mag Pole which, as the name implies, is the telescopic pole that the MagMovers screw onto. The pole has 5 extendable sections with a collapsed length of 1.6m and a fully extended length of 5.5m. “But how does it all work?” I hear you say! Well…

How they are used

To attach your decoration to a ceiling or wall; first attach a MagMover to a MagPole by screwing it onto the top. Take a magnet and tie your decoration into the ring on the magnet, slip the magnet onto a MagMover head; put it on top for a ceiling attachment or to the side for a wall-mount.

Extend the pole and touch the magnet to the metal point you want to attach to. The Magnet will fly off the MagMover, taking your decoration with it! You can use one MagMover for a single attachment point or a Multi MagMover for up to 6 attachment points, you can walk around with the Multi MagMover attaching one point after the other without collapsing the pole. This means you can attach your whole decoration in seconds! The Multi MagMover do work slightly different from the single heads, there is no cut-out in the centre of the head and the ring goes over the head for ceiling mounting but the principle’s the same!

What’s the weird corkscrew for? Removing your decoration! This is just as simple, just hook the corkscrew of the MagMover through the ring of the magnet and pull it off. The magnet will stay on the corkscrew, allowing you to gently bring your decoration down to the floor by collapsing the Mag Pole. Again, you can use a Multi MagMover for a larger decoration, this actually has a head with a straight copper wire (see left most head). This is for removing the weight to let it drop to the floor, which is good for quickly removing magnets that you don’t need to lower slowly.

Weird uses for MagMover Magnets

We have found that having a pair of magnets lying around is invaluable when filming BMTV. We have metal struts in the ceilings here at the Balloon Market offices, so the magnets are perfect for hanging anything where there are no attachment points. If you remember the candy swirl balloons that we did for BMTV or the QuickLink banner balloons in the Qualatex interview, these were all hung using magnets! They are particularly good for quickly adjusting the position of the decoration, so as to get the best shots of them when filming. You can even attach multiple weights together if you find that the decoration sits slightly too high.

While this may not be of use to everyone, ringed magnets make great temporary weights for balloons if you only need to hold them down for a short time. Simply get two weights and trap the ribbon of the balloon between them; two magnets are heavy enough to hold most foil balloons down, and you can always add more if they’re not! Basically, if you see a balloon in BMTV (which we guarantee you will!) it is most likely being held down, up or together by magnets!
