The Balloon Market Blog has another interview to share! Come and have a read about one of our awesome team members who help make your orders happen!

Leoni’s our next guest, who’s been part of the BM warehouse team for almost 4 years! After working at home running her own online business, Leoni joined us here at BM HQ for a change of pace, and has since started a little family of her own! But now she’s back, and she’s ready to answer some burning questions…

On the Meet the Team page, you’ve listed a fun fact about yourself. Tell us more about that!

I used to work from home full-time, so I wanted something to get me out of the house. I’d seen there was an allotment near me, so as a surprise my husband put my name down on the list and a few months later… I had my own allotment! This was around the time we were engaged, so I decided to give growing flowers a go in time for my wedding! I had a little trial year to begin with, as I hadn’t really grown much before that, and it went really well! I thought that if I’d be able to get enough for my bouquet, that would be an achievement, but we ended up filling my husband’s van three times over! Since then, I’ve carried on my allotment with vegetables and different flowers. My children go down there and they love it!

What do you enjoy most about working at Balloon Market?

I just love working with everyone! After working on my own for quite a long time, it was nice to have a social side to working; getting to have a chat with everyone is great, they’re all really friendly! I also like being really busy, as I prefer it when you’re focused on doing a bunch of different tasks!

Do you have a favourite product that we stock?

Yes I do! It is… the cowboy boots foil balloon! I’ve always loved it; I just want to go to a party that feels the need to have that balloon… surely it’d be a hoedown or something!

What everyday item do you always get the name-brand version of?

This was tricky, as I do quite like buying from Lidl & Aldi. I’m quite happy to get the cheap versions of most things; when it comes to stuff like beans or ketchup, I’m easy. I’d never buy a bottle of generic cola though; I’d always go for Coca-Cola. Always get the OG.

What’s the No.1 thing on your bucket list?

It would be to take my children to Disneyland! They’re both quite young at the moment but are still close in age, so I’m hoping they’ll have similar interests when it comes to Disney. I never went when I was little, and that’s always the dream when you’re a kid, isn’t it? The other day I signed up to Disney+ to get them both into Mickey Mouse; he’s not really on TV anymore, so I need to get them to know all the characters before they go!

What’s your favourite kind of food? Is there a favourite restaurant you like to go to?

I like Italian food; my husband and I got engaged in Italy so it’s always our go-to. There’s one called La Pergola in Lyndhurst; you can sit outside with all the vines hanging down and it’s really cute.

Have you ever had a nickname?

I’ve never had a nickname because you wouldn’t think you’d be able to shorten my name. HOWEVER, a couple of years back in the warehouse, some of my colleagues started calling me “Lenny”. I can kind of forgive it as it’s a little endearing, but the more people that pick up on it, the more I want to shut it down.

Is there something that most people like that you don’t like?

I feel like I’m gonna get vilified for saying this… you’re going to be shocked… David Attenborough’s nature programmes. Here’s the thing: I love animals, I love nature, I have nothing against Dave as he’s a lovely man… but I’m quite an emotional person, so when I get really involved and they slam you with the “HUMANS ARE KILLING THE PLANET” message at the end, I just feel horrendous. I can’t sleep after watching one of those, so I try to avoid them.

Do you have any good TV recommendations?

I did just watch The Last Of Us, the mushroom zombie one. I kind of feel like that’s going to happen someday. I also watched The Handmaid’s Tale, that could possibly happen too. I’m really into the dystopian future, alternative scary zombie… stuff.

Do you have a question for the readers?

‘What is your favourite balloon that we stock?’

Thanks for taking the time to chat this week, Leoni! If you weren’t already aware, we stock A LOT of balloons. Foils, latex, plain, themed; you name it, we’re likely to have it. I’m personally a big fan of bubble balloons; there’s a Halloween design that’s covered in spooky characters that I think is great.

Feel free to contact us at info@balloonmarket.co.uk to learn more about specific balloons! If you’re interested in something we don’t already stock, we may be able to order it in for you!

Let us know your answers to this week’s question below! See you all next time!
