Whichever you way you choose to spell it, (I’m going to stick with the British version of ‘doughnut’), there’s no denying that these sweet little round things are very much on trend.
We’re seeing doughnuts everywhere from doughnut cushions on Etsy to sweet doughnut designs in clothing. Time to move over, cupcakes!
In terms of events and parties, here’s how we see the doughnut trend unfolding:
Doughnut Walls
Towards the end of last summer, Doughnut Walls began to spring up on Instagram and Pinterest and with summer wedding season about to begin, I think this trend will continue and even expand across other occasions such as birthdays.
According to an article in Cosmopolitan magazine, guests go (Do)nuts for them!!
Doughnut treats
Bestfriendsforfrosting.com advocate that donuts are cute, customisable and individually-sized, so everyone enjoys their sweet treat! Check out their collection of chic treats
Giant doughnut cakes
It seems there has also been a rise in the popularity of giant doughnut celebration cakes. They look so awesome, I couldn’t resist sharing tutorials for two of the finest giant doughnut cakes I ever did see!
All that cake makes me want to throw a Doughnut-themed party which leads nicely on to the next point…
Doughnut Time Party Supplies
Launched at the Spring Fair earlier this year, this fabulous Doughnut Time range which includes plates, cups, napkins, tablecovers, favour boxes and letter banners is already proving to be incredibly popular.
Doughnut Balloons
And of course, a party isn’t a party without balloons and when it comes to doughnut designs, there’s no shortage!
From giant doughnut-shaped foil balloons to the 14” air-fill, doughnut-inspired Sprinkles mini number balloons which, incidentally, look super-sweet on the top of a large tier cake!
And if you’re feeling über creative, you can create your own version using Geodonut Balloons (the name’s a giveaway!). With a bit of paint and some flutter fetti, spectacular results can be achieved. We love this picture by Clare of Checks and Spots
No birthday to celebrate any time soon? Donut worry, National Doughnut Week runs from 6-13 May 2017. Why not host a Doughnut party and raise some dough for The Children’s Trust the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injuries.
