Wedding Trends – Balloons pt 1

Happy young woman with colorful latex balloons

One of my favourite times of the year is fast approaching: Wedding Season! This year is particularly special to me as I am in the middle of planning my own wedding…eeee!! As you can imagine, I’m conducting a lot of research into what’s on trend in the world of weddings so I thought I‘d blog about one of my favourite current wedding trends, as far as balloons are concerned:

Giant Balloons

Helium-filled giant latex balloons were such a huge success last wedding season and this trend shows no sign of letting up this year…or next! Quite often used as props for professional photos, stunning pictures of couples holding enormous balloons can be found all over Pinterest. Giant balloons also make a real statement as room décor.

We stock Qualatex giant balloons in a couple of different sizes: 30 inch for the metallic and pearl range and 36” for the standard, fashion and jewel range. There is a wide range of colours to suit most colour schemes with new colours often being added to the range. This year’s addition is coral; a very popular colour for Spring/Summer weddings.

Not only are Qualatex latex balloons consistent in size and shape, another advantage is that the colours of the balloons match across all sizes. For example; the 3ft fashion coral latex balloons will match the 11” & 5” fashion coral latex balloons as well as 160Q, 260Q and 350Q modelling. This means you can create interesting decorations, using a variety of balloons, knowing they will all co-ordinate. Manufacturer guidelines state these balloons have a float time of around 3 – 4 days when filled with helium and a lift ability of 184g for the 30” and 340g for the 36”.

So what size helium cylinder will inflate these big balloons?

Disposable helium cylinder V size T size L size
Number of 30” latex balloons 1 – nearly 2! 7 15 38
Number of 36” latex balloons 1 4 8 20

Qualatex also recommend inflating the 36” standard and jewel colours to 34” to prevent bursting. If you are selling them on to customers un-inflated, I would suggest they inflate them slightly less again to avoid accidental bursts.
Giant balloons are a great product to sell as part of a balloon decorating service or even as a DIY package e.g. 1 balloon, 1 disposable helium cylinder, some ribbon/tassel garland and a weight.

I hope this has whet your appetite for using/selling giant balloons in your business. I will be back next time with another of my favourite wedding trends….watch this space!
